Poster A GAME PLAN A GAME PLAN
BOARD GAMES FROM THE COLLECTIONS OF THE NORTH BOHEMIAN MUSEUM
9. 12. 2015 – 13. 3. 2016

One of the most frequent and also most typical human activities is a game. However, it isn´t a primary activity necessary for surviving and providing the bare necessities of life, it fulfils a significant part of people´s free time. Some games, originally only fun ones, have developed into a professional activity, others serve as a source of knowledge and are sort of preparation for a real life, others then remain as a relaxing activity that is supposed to entertain, get close people together or spend free time in a purposeful way. The exhibition A GAME PLAN, kept in the depositories of the North Bohemian Museum, introduces a remarkable collection of board games to a wide public. Games and gaming aids on display belong mostly to the first half of the 20th century. They were purchased or donated to the Museum´s collections during the mentioned time period and also in the following decades and originate most often from the German provenience. They are mostly types of card, dice or board games that most children and adults are familiar with nowadays - they have got them in their current or recent historical variations and in Czech Language. The collections ´games will definitely attract visitors´ attention, not only for their time of origin and language, but also for their craft and graphic design that in many cases outperform significantly a mass machine production of nowadays.  Poster

Poster LONG LIVE A HANDY MAN OR WHAT THE WORLD HASN´T SEEN
October 21st, 2015 – February 14th, 2016

While our first exhibition of "homemade art" in the year 2010 introduced solely artefacts, that were made by the people without art education and also bigger artistic ambitions for their households because of the lack of decorative objects, this exhibition brings objects more practical aimed at using them mainly in the gardens and home workshops. Two specific phenomena - DIY and gardening are mingled here, mainly thematically, from the times when socialist Czechoslovakia was the place of shortage. A collection on display comes from the collection of Mr. Milan Říha, an owner of the Museum of DIY and enthusiastic collector of all DIY products.  Poster

Poster NO MAN´S LAND / A SERBIAN - CROATIA
BORDER FOR REFUGEES
November 12th, 2015 – February 28th, 2015

An exhibition of photographs by Jana Hunterová. A roughly 100 meter long zone of "the no man´s land" between Serbian Berkasovo and Croatian Bapska. It is a destination where thousands of refugees have been crossing the borders every day since the end of September of 2015. The co-ordination between both countries very often flounders unfortunately and thus a lot of refugees get stuck in this no man´s land for a number of long hours. Never ending crowds of chilled people are exposed to very bad weather conditions with a big lack of meeting basic needs of life. They wait, under simple tents and also outside them, for a possibility to enter Croatia that opens them a dream journey to the European Union. A group of Czech volunteers together with other charity organisations help to manage and co-ordinate a crowd; provide warm clothes, blankets, food, drinks and health assistance. They provide, in a co-operation with several volunteering translators, newcomers with information and psychical support. There are a lot of children, women, old and ill people among refugees. They are waiting for never-ending hours for arrival of a coveted bus standing or sitting simply on the wet and muddy ground. However, they have their hope that gives them the strength to go on.  Poster
